Many wonder how we produce silk with such a lush texture and fine weave. The answer is simple- we work with only the best raw material. Our commitment to natural raw materials and our innovative process enable us to produce silk that stands out for its simplicity and purity. We believe that we have a responsibility for the way our products are made.
The traditional process of silk production requires the killing of hundreds of thousands of silk moths in their pupae stage by boiling, though most consumers are not aware of this cruelty in the production process. Yet silk can also be made in a non violent way.
Ahimsa silk is made from the cocoons of wild and semi wild silk moths of India. In our production, the pupae are not stifled or killed to obtain reeled yarn and the moths complete their full life cycles. Meticulously handcrafted, our products are woven and embroidered by tribal groups with designs and motifs adapted from their traditional repertoire for the modern world.
